Okay, so we had all the ingredients for one hot celebration evening at The Crescent and boy was it fantastic! Kicking things off with a warm-hearted opening were our hosts for the evening, “The Andrew Sisters” (sans frilly dresses). Sticking to ‘the awards format’ of witty “to me, to you…” style banter, our Chairman Andrew Lowrie and Members Manager Andrew Smith certainly kept the pace going, gifting us with musical interludes and impromptu performances by the cast of A Funny Happened On The Way To The Forum and The History Boys.
Above all else there was a massive sense of camaraderie in the auditorium- a mutual sigh of
relief satisfaction and an appreciation of everybody’s hard work, setting the precedent and spurring us all on to deliver more of the same this forthcoming season!
As for the awards themselves, they proved very big for FOH veteran, Ray Duddin; technical virtuosos James Booth and Keith Harris; and for the cast and crew of Forum as a whole…
This is by no means an exhaustive list though, you’ll have to ask Mr Dudley for that (who- by the way- gets my award for kick-ass suit of the night)!
The speeches were (*cough*) insightful… ha ha ha, sorry but aside from heights, nothing on God’s green earth makes me more nervous than award speeches…
… but seriously, there were some lovely words, some exciting announcements and genuine heart-warming moments, my favorites being Pat Brown winning the Chairman’s Award for her outstanding contribution to our theatre and Nick Tuck’s AMAZING solo performance!
After all was said and done, we proceeded to the bar (OF COURSE!) where we partied, chowed-down and laughed about the night’s events.
I personally would like to thank everyone who came together to pull this all off, the spread was beautiful and the night was truly enjoyable- one of those rare occasions where the whole membership gets to hangout and just relax. If you weren’t in attendance, then where the hell were you eh? You missed a fab night but I’m sure next year’s will be just as successful.
All that’s left to say is, “Step it up professionals… The Crescent is coming for you!” And to my fellow members? Here’s to another 80 years… “Cheers!”
