‘The Hostage’, which could be best described as hilarious tragedy, is set in a Dublin lodging-house of doubtful repute and features a cast of odd and eccentric characters. Into this setting is brought a young English soldier who has been captured by the IRA. What follows is a peculiarly Irish mixture of love story, farce and tragedy with songs and music. A wildly entertaining slice of 1950’s Dublin life.
