Matinees 11th & 18th at 2.45pm
Set in Botany Bay in 1789 it tells of the rehearsals for the first play to be performed in Australia. Surrounded by forbidding conditions Lt. Clarke attempts, under the authority of the first Gov. General, to bring culture to the penal colony through a production of Farquhar’s ‘The Recruiting Officer’, with a motley bunch of villains, murderers and prostitutes.
A detailed description of the play and the rehearsal process is described by the director and cast in the Eight Moon Jouney. This will be of particular interest to students.
