The Really Good Theatre Company present

Blithe Spirit

by Noel Coward

21st – 24th May 2008 at 7.45pm  in Ron Barber Studio Theatre

“I long ago came to the conclusion that nothing has ever been definitely proved about anything”

Suspense, suspicion and supernatural manifestations are at the forefront of Noel Coward¹s improbable farce.

When poor unsuspecting novelist Charles Condomine invites the eccentric psychic Madame Arcati to dinner for research purposes he gains more than he bargains for. What begins as a fanciful evening of intrigue turns into total disruption as Charles is visited by the ghost of his dead wife Elvira. Determined to wrestle him from the clutches of his new wife Ruth by wreaking havoc on the household, Elvira plots to reclaim her husband forever. Cat fights, complicated love triangles and marital clashes ensue as a twist of fate takes hold of events, revealing tantalizing revelations.

Blithe Spirit was Coward's own favourite play, emerging from his imagination in just five days while he visited friends in Wales and quickly became one of his most popular plays setting all manner of British box-office records, which were not broken until the 1970s. Sharply witty and savagely funny this play will leave you laughing in your seats.
