Stan Laurel - Two faces

Richard Jordan Productions in association with The Crescent Theatre present

“Stan Laurel: Please Stand Up!”

The world premiere of a brilliant new play by award-winning writer and performer Bob Kingdom

Developed with special assistance from Lois Laurel-Hawes

3rd - 4th April at 7.30pm in The Main House

Stan Laurel, comedy genius, recluse, mystery and possibly the greatest comedian who ever lived. But whats the real story from up there on the silver screen and from down there behind it. The comedian everyone wanted to be, but what happens when you hang up the hat and want to be just Stan? Where does the performance end and real life begin? And what about your partner, where are you, who are you, and what are you without them?

This funny, touching and new play offers the opportunity to discover the man who was  formerly Stan Jefferson and how, and why, he became Stan Laurel - comedy genius.

With assistance from Lois Laurel-Hawes , Stan Laurel's real life daughter, the play will get closer than ever before to discovering the real man who made the world laugh and his relationship with the world when the cameras stopped turning. A wonderful and affectionate portrait of a man who left England on the same boat as Charlie Chaplin bound for America to make his fortune.

Bob Kingdom's legendary and critically acclaimed performances as Dylan Thomas (Dylan Thomas; Return Journey) and Truman Capote (The Truman Capote Talk Show) have delighted audiences around the world including seasons in London and New York. Now he turns his hand to playing the greatest comedy legend of all time; Stan Laurel...with possibly an appearance from Ollie too!

"Bob Kingdom is a great actor and a true theatrical chameleon, don't miss him!" BBC Radio
