Birmingham School of Acting Autumn SeasonNanaWed 1st – Sat 4th December 2010 in The Main House Nana is a parable for our times. Amid the greed and sexual hysteria of 19th-century Paris, Nana is a compelling force of Nature – actress, then courtesan, she rises through the ranks of society to the upper echelons where she devours men and their fortunes with neither malice nor regret. At the height of her powers, she is cut down by smallpox: a parallel for the collapse of Napoleon III's debauched and corrupt Second Empire, and perhaps for our globally-driven ultra-consumerist society. Wymark's adaptation of Zola's beautifully detailed Nana preserves the immediacy of the work for a modern audience. In association with Samuel French Ltd Tickets: £7.00 (concessions: £5.00 , Students: £2.50) |
