Separate Tables by Terence Rattigan

The Separate Tables company have been hard at work in the rehearsal room bringing Rattigans classic to life. Performances on 2nd – 9th July, this will be the final show in our theatre this season but, of course, there is still the summer tour of ‘Ideal Husband’ to come.

Scott Westwood into RADA!

Fabulous news this morning when Scott Westwood – Septimus Hodge in our current production of ‘Arcadia’ – learnt he has gained a place at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Very, very well done, Scott.

‘Arcadia’ by Tom Stoppard

‘Arcadia’ by Tom Stoppard has opened in the Ron Barber Studio and will have it’s last performance at the theatre on the 11th June. The first production of this show at the National Theatre had a cast of Bill Nighy, Felicity Kendall, Rufus Sewell and Emma Fielding amongst a superb cast and the Crescent has put it’s own stellar cast together for their version. Many words have been written about a complex, yet funny and emotionally engaging play that takes in landscape gardening, the Newtonian system, classical mathematics and poetry verses penicillin etc, but perhaps start at the Independent’s article about it being ‘the greatest play of our age’.

Sweeney Todd – Stephen Sondheim

Not long to go now until Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – is unleashed on the main stage at the Crescent Theatre. Absolutely fantastic sounds emanating from the rehearsal room. Book your tickets now! For more rehearsal pictures click here.

Pirandello’s classic ‘Six Characters In Search of an Author’ – one of the most audacious plays ever written -  is very rarely done and so we’re very much looking forward to the Jo Thackrway directed version in the studio starting on May 7th.

Alan Marshall is always a popular director to work for and going to his rehearsals it’s easy to see why. Always engaging, interesting and creative he manages a studio full of actors with ease. As to the show, it looks really good and promises to be one of the more visceral ‘Caesars’ one is likely to see. The Crescent takes a breather from the stage for two weeks but will be back with JC on April 16th in the Ron Barber Studio.

‘Maskerade’ by Terry Pratchet. Crescent Youth Theatre

The Crescent Youth Theatre seniors have the next opening night at the theatre. ‘Maskerade’ by Terry Pratchet is an irreverent dig at the world of (Phantom Of The) opera and the Youth Theatre company bring out all of Pratchetts jokes to very funny effect. Directed by Rachael Veazey it runs from 24th – 26th in the Ron Barber Studio.

‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ by Tennessee Williams

‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ is said to be Tennessee Williams’ favourite play of his own work. Easy to see why when you see the terrific production about to play on the Crescent main stage. Themes of sexual desire, decay, greed and death have rarely been so brilliantly woven into a piece of art.
