Deep winter, 1879. Four 'redcoat' soldiers, back in England after participating in a bloody imperialist war, turn up in a northern town in the grip of a miners' strike.
Assumed variously to have come to help break the strike, or to recruit for the ongoing campaigns abroad, 'Black Jack' Musgrave in fact has his own terrifying agenda. John Arden's 1959 classic anti-war play is ripe for revival, and retains a bitter relevance today.
