Swallows and Amazons

Stage2 presents

Swallows and Amazons

by Arthur Ransome | Adapted by Helen Edmundson

17 - 19 Jul in the Main House at 7.30 | Matinee: Saturay 19 July 2pm

On Summer Holidays in the Lake District in 1929, the Walker children's plea to be allowed to camp on Wild Cat Island is answered by a now legendary telegram, from their Naval Captain Father, which heralds the start of the adventure…

'Better drowned than duffers, if not duffers wont drown'

Meeting the Amazons, who share the Swallows love of all things nautical, they are temporally rendered enemies in the fight to determine who’s boat is to be flagship in the fleet against ‘retired Pirate’ Captain Flint!

Their imaginations run free as...

‘Every stream is a river, every tree is a forest,

every rock is a mountain range, new and strange,

here by claimed by the Swallows’

Swallows and Amazons, with its atmospheric live music, engaging characters and fantastical adventure will be a stimulating theatrical experience. Stage2, ‘who must be one of the leading youth theatres in the region, if not the country’ will use our creative ensemble of actors to bring both authenticity and a fresh techniques to this wonderful piece of literature, loved by adults and children alike.

‘Imagination is at the very centre of Swallows and Amazons, the children in the story are given the freedom to act out an ambitious, enthralling, imaginative game.
And that proved to be the key to this adaptation’

Helen Edmundson
