Set in 17th Century Ireland during the time of the English occupation, under Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth, The Clearing tells the story of a young couple from disparate backgrounds and depicts how their different upbringings and cultural backgrounds affect the decisions they make when confronted with oppressive rule.
Helen Edmundson’s play gives us an intensely moving and human story that reinforces the notion that, in the end, everything that happens that is personal, and the decisions we make, are all political.
This production is presented in association with Nick Hern books
