In the late 1930s a nameless aspiring writer from St Louis is new in Old Orleans. Struggling with his literary career, poverty and loneliness, struggles to find his sexual identity.
As he gradually becomes involved with the other residents of a dilapidated boarding house, he comes into contact with manipulators, predators, death, drug addiction and sexuality in all its forms.
