Set in 1896, 'Blue Stockings' charts the formidable and often harrowing struggles of a small group of women at Girton College, Cambridge, the first college in Britain to admit women.

The Girton Girls study unremittingly, easily matching the academic achievements of their male peers. Their greater battle, however, as they fight to win the right to graduate, is combating the overwhelming, almost universal prejudice against the education of women.
