With support from Ashland
Ashland is an acoustic duo based in the Midlands, with Kathryn Marsh on vocals and David Sutherland on guitar. The idea for the duo was born from Kathryn’s search for a musician willing to learn songs penned by her father; songs which helped form many of the musical memories of her childhood. David, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with an impressive history of collaborating with others, was happy to help. Both musicians soon realised that Kathryn’s clear and powerful vocals worked well with David’s own material and so in October 2015, Ashland was formed.
Gig highlights so far include: Opening for Ange Hardy and Steve Tilston; a showcase at Fatea Magazine’s Busk Love Folk Festival (part of Love Folk Festival at The Atkinson); ‘Folkin’ Great’, The Crescent Theatre’s inaugural folk festival and a live and streamed concert at The Convent, near Stroud, where the lineup included Boo Hewerdine, Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band, Sam Sweeney, Fleetwood Cave, Edd Donovan, Tony Hazzard and Luke Tuchsherer.
“Kathryn has crystal-clear vocals and Dave’s restrained precision acoustic guitar accompaniment is note perfect.” – Kenn Stott, Folk Monthly
