Every year films from all round the world are submitted to the biggest and best amateur Film Festival in Europe. This year the winners’ show comes to Birmingham for the first time. There are in the region of 250 entries and the very best of those films will be shown throughout the day. At the end of the day the winners of the Best British Entry prize and the Best Film in the Festival will be announced.
Don’t be put off by that word ‘amateur’. These films are made to the highest standards and can entertain, intrigue and inspire you. They are made by amateurs for the love of movie making. They are not made for profit and they cover every conceivable genre and topic. What they are not are ‘other people’s holiday films’ or ‘baby on the lawn’. In last year’s competition the major prizes were taken by:-
A post-apocalyptic drama exploring the concept of whether it would be possible to teach robots emotions
A film about a young man coming to terms with his sexuality.
An animation about a schoolboy and his first girlfriend.
There will be travel films, of course, but there will also be nature documentaries as well as dramas and comedies.
You could expect to see approximately 20 high quality short films in the day culminating in the awards ceremony at 5:30
