The Crescent Theatre is committed to building and nurturing relationships with education and community organisations. Below you can find more information about what we offer and how to contact us.
Schools and Colleges
We welcome visits from school parties – enthusiastic schools audiences contribute to the vibrant atmosphere at the Crescent and we are committed to providing engaging and affordable theatrical experiences for young people.
Both our main stage and studio space are fully accessible, and due to the layout of both spaces, there is no such thing as a ‘bad seat’; your students can see all of the action, all of the time. Our education ticket price is just £7 Tues-Thurs for evening performances and £9.50 for daytime performances and all day Fri-Sat**. This means that our productions are significantly more affordable than any other theatre in Birmingham.
Please note that discounted tickets only apply to Crescent Theatre produced shows and will not apply to shows produced by visiting companies.
For those in further or higher education, we also offer an excellent value Student Ticket, available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Crescent Theatre productions only. This costs just £5 and is only available in person from our Box Office, on production of a valid NUS card.
To books tickets for your school, please contact the Box Office on 0121 643 5858 10am – 7pm Mon – Sat, or email email@example.com
You can download our Crescent Theatre Guidance for School Parties prior to your visit.
We have also prepared a Guidance For Schools Risk Assessment document which you may find useful in preparation for your visit.
Each season we identify productions that are likely to particularly appeal to schools and colleges and education workbooks are created to support students’ experience of seeing the show. Education workbooks are available via the link below.
We can also offer additional experiences to enhance your students’ experience of seeing a production. These can be used to enhance their knowledge of stagecraft and/or to deepen their engagement with a play text that is being studied. We understand that each educational establishment has different needs. We always endeavour to meet needs through bespoke packages, rather than offer generic education visits. These can include:
- backstage tours directly before an evening show or after a matinee
- the director or designer talking to a group before or after the show
- cast members meeting and greeting audiences after the show
- a post show discussion, similar to the ‘after dark’ we already provide on Friday evenings for the general public
- in-house workshops for young people
- visits by cast members into schools
To arrange any of these activities please contact Liz Plumpton, Education and Engagement Officer, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Community and Adult Education Groups
We welcome opportunities to engage with community and lifelong learning organisations. Many of our productions are ideal for visits by adult groups, both social and educational. Our Friday evening performances are usually followed by an After Dark, which is a chance to discuss the production with the cast and creative team.
To books tickets for your group, please contact the Box Office on 0121 643 5858 10am – 7pm Mon – Sat, or email email@example.com
If you would like to arrange additional opportunities for your group to engage with a production through a pre or post-show talk or workshop, please contact Liz Plumpton, Education and Engagement Officer, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
**Discounted rates for schools and colleges only applicable to bookings of 10 or more tickets.
